Affairs of India; but after the full

explanation of my views which I have

furnished to you,

and to the authorities,

and under date the 11th instant

in England,

it is not necessary that I

should offer many

additional observations upon the present occasion.

agree with Captain

Elllich in opinion

to hold

an inquiry, in the present state

as to every Account that could be

prepared of the expenses of the Expedition.

It will, I apprehend, be sufficient that

an approximate Sum be settled, as

likely to cover all those expenses,

and that

our claim be considered as

liquidated on the payment of such Sum.

The latest return from

the Accountant

General made up to the 24th August,

shows the amount of disbursement, as

having been defrayed by

Indian Government to be £410,00,722 6.95d. No Statement has been

received from England of the charges

there incurred for the Expedition, but
